Theme: GIS for Economic Development
Asia Pacific, one of the most distinct world regions in
terms of geography, culture and economic development,
is in the midst of a rapid change. This change, largely
an effect of globalization, is supported by the rapid
development, transmission and use of information and
knowledge. Effective economic development strategies
depend on answering a variety of questions such as the
spatial patterns of households, businesses and proposed
infrastructural facilities within a community, which are
primarily geographic in nature. Through demand for
services and inputs, economic development fosters job
growth, strengthens local industries, spurs demographic
changes, influences household spending patterns, and
raises the volume of income circulating throughout the
economy. The Second ESRI Asia Pacific User conference
aimed to discuss the economic, social and environmental
benefits of geographic information systems.
Venue:
The conference was held at the Taj Palace Hotel
Convention Centre. It is located in the heart of New
Delhi, 10 minutes from the city centre and airport. Delhi,
India’s capital city; which is the cradle of civilization since times
immemorial, going back thousands of years. The city is a
fascinating mix of the ancient and the new age, of age-old
tradition and modern living.
ESRI India is one among the many organizations
representing the face of modern day India headquartered
in New Delhi and a symbol of the country’s new age
spirit.
